Thai-style surprise at Sugar Hut

The term 'Thai-style' is bandied about by hoteliers and bungalow owners fairly loosely nowadays. It can mean virtually any kind of accommodation which is made from wood and has a steep gabled roof. Sugar Hut Bungalow and Restaurant on Tabphya Road. Pattaya City really is Thai-style in every sense of the word though, without compromise. The bungalows at Sugar Hut have everything that is Thai with a few modern comforts like air conditioners and refrigerators (albeit disguised to look Thai) thrown in . Beds are only slightly raised above the floor and nave mosquito nets hanging from the ceiling. The delightful indoor garden bathrooms have the traditional urns of water for bathing so you can really splash the water on while catching some sun or gazing at the night sky.

Sugar Hut is a great place to get (or stay) fit. The owner. Dr. Sunya Viravaidya, Has gone to the length of building a jogging track to the rear of the bungalows which winds its way between newly planted trees and shrubs. The track is one of the few places where a jogger can get a good run in fresh country air without the constant nuisance of traffic,. It's well away from any road and fringes the slopes of a nearby hill with a big Buddha image on top, so runners can perhaps get some divine inspiration while they do a few laps.

A brand new gym is another place where the Sugar Hut guests can fight off some flab and tone up those sagging muscles. The gym is equipped with the latest machines, all ingeniously designed to work even the hardest to-reach corners of the body.

And of course there's the swimming pool Dr. Sunya reckons the Sugar Hut swimming pool is the best in Pattaya and it's easy to see why. Apart from the pool's beautiful appearance the water is incredibly clean. The pool is one of very few in the Pattaya area to pass stringent water purity tests. Attached to the main swimming pool is a very powerful swirl-pool which is guaranteed to massage away every ache and pain.

In tune with the rest of Sugar Hut the restaurant serves traditional food in an atmosphere which is unmistakably Thai right down to the place setting. The food is exquisite and the recipes and ingredients authentic. But for those who really miss their own local favorites. There is a rang of international cuisine available too.
